Launching Fall 2023!
The Social Media Creator Certificate is a fully online, lower-division certificate that teaches students healthy and safe social media habits and practices and prepares them to use their online presence to solve problems and make a difference in their life, their community, and our world.
The certificate is designed for a broad audience of current or aspiring social media influencers, intercollegiate student-athletes, eGamers, and community members who want to develop their social media presence.
Offered in fast-paced seven-week sessions, the curriculum is designed to provide you with marketable workplace skills related to developing social media engagement and content strategy and, thus, improving your career readiness regardless of your career path.
Consisting of all lower-division courses without prerequisites, you can start immediately and finish your certificate in two semesters.
Course Requirements
- WRITE 185 Name, Image, Likeness (3-0-3) (F/ S). Develop strategies to identify opportunities for using name, image, and likeness that are consistent with brand and values. Introduction to tools and techniques to use social media platforms in safe and healthy ways.
- Write 186 Creating Digital Value (3-0-3) (F/S). Investigate leveraging digital technologies and services such as user analytics and search engine algorithms in the development of digital value. Practice implementing digital information strategies to create useful, relevant, and engaging social media content.
- Write 280 Social Storytelling and Leadership (3-0-3) (F, S). Introduction to the ethical and effective use of storytelling on social media platforms for the benefit of a community. Practice identifying and using narrative elements to responsibly promote content that engages and inspires audiences. Topics will include characterization, thematic significance, identity development, types of content, shared purpose, and brand voice.
