Video Transcript: Weaving a Web of Support

Speaker 1: Last year, around 76% of college students experienced moderate to severe psychological distress.

Text on screen: National College Health Assessment – ACHA. (n.d.)

Speaker 2: This can cause students to experience a deficit in academic performance and isolate themselves from friends, professors, and family.

Speaker 3: About 1 in 4 college students experience academic problems due to drinking.

Speaker 4: In about 1 in 5 college students participated in illicit drug use in the past month.

Narrator: The people around you offer support and help you stay accountable in your commitment to a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle. Friends, family, counselors, and support groups can be positive role models, providing a sense of belonging and encouraging healthy, sober activities. If you know someone struggling with substance abuse, don’t hesitate to reach out. They are part of your web of support, too.

Speaker 5: If you are facing challenges with substance misuse, remember that you’ve already built a strong community of supportive connections who can help you.

All: You are not alone.
