New Digital Accessibility Requirements

On April 24, 2024, the Department of Justice (DOJ) issued a new rule under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), mandating that all public web content and mobile apps, including academic course materials, be accessible by April 24, 2026.

This impacts all university websites, digital tools, and documents, making accessibility a shared responsibility across the campus.

The new rule specifies compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level A and AA. Key areas affected include websites (including student org and third-party sites), mobile apps, social media posts, and digital course content. Boise State, as a public entity, must meet these requirements by the 2026 deadline.

The Office of Institutional Compliance and Ethics is coordinating efforts to create a compliance plan, ensuring all digital materials are accessible to individuals with disabilities.

Collaboration across departments will be critical to meet this goal.
