Gutenberg theme editor and transition

In collaboration with Modern Tribe, we have worked to modernize our web theme. This update is designed to leverage current core features and functionality, ensuring our boisestate.edu environment is compatible with the latest versions of plugins and core PHP updates that power WordPress.

The new Gutenberg theme editor introduces a block-based system for website design and editing. Blocks represent different types of content such as text, images, videos, buttons, or forms. These blocks can be added, rearranged, and customized on each page or post, allowing users to design content while adhering to Boise State’s branding guidelines. Think of it as assembling a puzzle—each block is a piece that comes together to create a cohesive web page.

As part of the transition, all existing WordPress pages must be updated to use the new Gutenberg editor, while any new pages will automatically utilize it. The WordPress Support Team is currently developing a migration schedule that will provide departments and programs the option to either update their entire site at once or transition their pages gradually.

Additional training opportunities and resources will be available soon to assist with the migration.
