The Montgomery GI Bill® – Active Duty (MGIB-AD), otherwise known as Chapter 30, provides education benefits to veterans and service members who have at least two years of active duty, and who aren’t qualified for the Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) .

Benefits
Chapter 30 provides a monthly stipend based on your enrollment status. This is paid directly to the student from the VA.
Chapter 30 recipients are required to verify university enrollment each month via the VA’s online reporting tool here.
Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E), otherwise known as Chapter 31, helps service members and veterans with service-connected disabilities prepare for, find, and maintain suitable careers. Applicants must work with a VR&E Counselor – apply here. Of special note, VR&E is NOT an education program, it is an employment program that can support education programs IF approved and are deemed necessary to help the veteran overcome barriers to employment and enter suitable employment that is consistent with their pattern of interests, aptitude, and abilities
Eligibility
VR&E is for veterans with a disability rating of at least 20%, with an honorable or other than honorable discharge, with a a need for employment assitance.
Benefits
Tuition and fees are paid by the VA directly to Boise State. Fees do not include parking passes or any housing or meal plans.
Books and Supplies – covers books, supplies, and sometimes equipment, directly or through reimbursement.
Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA)- Rates are based on location and eligibility. MHA is based on BAH rate of an E-5 with dependents. Funds are direct-deposited into student’s bank account.
Parking – Veterans can receive money for parking when using Chapter 31 benefits
The Post-9/11 GI Bill®, otherwise known as Chapter 33, is an education benefit program for individuals who served on active duty after Sept. 10, 2001, and their dependents.
Eligibility
At least one of these must be true:
You served at least 90 days on active duty (either all at once or with breaks in service) on or after September 11, 2001, or
You received a Purple Heart on or after September 11, 2001, and were honorably discharged after any amount of service, or
You served for at least 30 continuous days (all at once, without a break in service) on or after September 11, 2001, and were honorably discharged with a service-connected disability, or
You’re a dependent child using benefits transferred by a qualifying Veteran or service member

Textbook Stipend Based on number of credits taken, student can receive up to $1,000 per academic year. Funds are direct-deposited into student’s bank account.
Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA)- Rates are based on location and eligibility percentage of student. MHA is based on BAH rate of an E-5 with dependents. Funds are direct-deposited into student’s bank account.
The Dependents’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35 DEA) program offers education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to service-related conditions or who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition.
A stipend is paid directly to students monthly but not tied directly to specific tuition amounts nor does it have a separate housing allowance like chapters 31 and 33.
Students using Chapter 35 benefits are charged at the in-state tuition rate regardless their state of residency
Requirements
Currently there are no monthly reporting requirements for CH 35.
The Montgomery GI Bill® – Selected Reserve, otherwise known as Chapter 1606, provides education and training benefits to eligible members of the Selected Reserve, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Reserves, and the Army and Air National Guard. Eligibility for this program is determined by Selected Reserve components, and VA submits payments.
Eligibility
In general, must have a 6 year service obligation, completed Initial Active Duty for Training (IADT), and have a high school diploma or GED.
