Summer Research Community 2025

The Summer Research Community (SRC) aims to support students engaged in summer research to help them move forward in their journey in research and creative activity. We will meet weekly, for five weeks, where we will have various speakers share content and resources.

Meetings will be held Wednesdays, June 4 to July 9, virtually from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. MDT.

WELCOME SESSION + ETHICAL CONDUCT OF RESEARCH – Get an overview of what we will be doing in the coming weeks
– Understand research ethics issues and contributing factors
– Understand consequences of research misconduct
– Recall at least two local contacts to discuss research concerns with
– Learn the importance of transparency and reproducibility of research

RESEARCH STORIES – Hear from 3 grad students about their research journeys
– Hear about how their undergraduate work led them to graduate college
– Get an opportunity to ask them questions and be in breakout rooms with them

EFFECTIVE RESEARCH POSTERS – Learn about different parts of a poster
– Learn how you can translate your research paper into easily understood parts on the poster
– Learn design, layout and image tips
– Look at some posters and discuss various elements

COMMUNICATING YOUR RESEARCH – Target your message for different audiences
– Practice summarizing complex results
– Create an outline of how to talk about your research and professional goals
