Details about the B2B Program
Southwestern Idaho Bridges to Baccalaureate (SWID B2B) program is a 3-year support and research program for students at CWI that intend to transfer to Boise State and pursue biomedical research. The program aims to increase the number of underrepresented students in Idaho that are interested in the biomedical sciences.
The program successfully prepares students for careers in the biomedical sciences by providing:
- Enhanced advising
- Peer mentoring
- Paid research experience, working with faculty mentors at Boise State. Explore the research profiles of B2B faculty mentors here.
- Continued engagement at Boise State through research and specialized B2B courses
Program Timeline
B2B Year 1
The first year of the program is generally the last year a student will attend the College of Western Idaho. Students will complete Cell Biology (MMBS 260), Genetics (MMBS 280), and Ethics in Science (SCIE 102) during this time to better prepare for the upcoming research experience.
In the spring, students will be assigned a student mentor to help with the transition to Boise State. All mentors are in the third year of the B2B program and will assist in selecting a faculty mentor to prepare for the Bridges Summer Research Experience and provide general support.
All B2B Fellows participate in the 10-week Bridges Summer Research Experience with a distinguished faculty mentor, completing 40 hours per week. Students will also present at the Idaho INBRE Summer Research Conference at the end of their experience.Â
