Description

We’re looking for passionate stargazers to share the beauty and mystery of the night sky with Idaho communities as part of a NASA-funded outreach program.

From classroom demonstrations and planetarium shows to stargazing events, you will be responsible for bringing astronomy to our local communities in ways that are truly inspirational.

What you’ll do

  • Conduct outreach activities in Idaho communities including class demonstrations, monthly astronomy lectures, stargazing events, and planetarium shows
  • You’ll receive extensive training in basic astronomy to fulfill position expectations
  • Work 10-20 hours per week during the school year and 20-40 hours per week during the summer
  • 1-year position starting January 2024
  • $15 per hour
  • Travel expenses covered

What we are looking for

  • Full-time student enrolled at Boise State University
  • Open to undergraduate and graduate students
  • All majors welcome (you do not need to be an expert in astronomy)
  • Previous experience in astronomy preferred (intro astronomy course, high school coursework, member of local astronomy club)
  • Ability to travel locally
  • Valid driver’s license preferred
  • Availability for some evenings, nights and weekend work
  • Previous outreach experience a plus but not required
  • Comfortable speaking in front of audiences (classroom visits, leading star tours, young children, etc.)
