Description: Scholars Transforming Through Research (STR): Council on Undergraduate Research’s Advocacy Program is a blended six-month professional development opportunity for undergraduate students and faculty/mentors.
What is the importance of the program?
This program strives to create a more supportive and inclusive environment for undergraduate research, fostering its growth, recognition, and impact in academia and society.
- Empowers scholars to advocate for the value of UR and its importance in higher education
- Raises awareness about the benefits of UR across all audiences
- Provides resources, tools, and guidance that effectively advocate for UR
- Seeks to influence policies at the institutional, regional, and national levels to promote and support UR initiatives.
- Encourages collaboration to strengthen collective advocacy efforts
Who can participate?
Institutional teams are encouraged to apply. Teams must consist of a campus representative team lead – faculty or mentor – and up to three undergraduate research students who are currently enrolled in or have previously completed an undergraduate research experience. Each team member will be involved in all aspects of the trainings provided. There is no need for each member of the team to share disciplines, however, each team member must choose a discipline they are individually representing when applying.
When does this program take place?
This is a blended six-month professional development opportunity for undergraduate students and faculty/mentors. It will kick off online starting in mid-October and will be followed by an onsite training and congressional meetings November 5-6, 2023, in Washington DC. There will be additional online training and check-in points between December 2023 to April 2024.
