Prospective Students
Do I need a portfolio or reel to apply to be a student in Theatre Arts, Film and Television Arts or Creative Writing?
No! You do not need to submit materials to join any of our programs. Once you are admitted to Boise State University, you can simply declare your major, and you’re in!
Do you take transfer students?
Absolutely! You can find detailed information on how to apply to Boise State as a transfer student on the Boise State Admissions website.
What is the difference between a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree?
A Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree emphasizes intensive artistic practice and technical skill development. A BFA is a good choice if you are more interested in gaining extensive hands-on experience in your artistic field.
A Bachelor of Arts (BA) offers a broader, more liberal-arts focused approach. While you will still take hands-on courses and gain practical skills, a BA is a good choice if you are also interested in the study and history of your art form.
We currently offer a BFA and BA in Film and Television Arts, and a BFA and BA in Creative Writing. To learn more about these degrees and the other degree paths we offer, please visit our Academic Programs page and click on the degree that interests you.
Can I visit campus, see the program spaces and meet with a professor?
Yes! The best way to set up a visit is to register for a campus tour through Boise State Admissions. On the intake form, you can indicate that you’d like to meet with faculty or staff in one of our programs. If a campus tour doesn’t work for you, you can contact us directly about setting up an informational meeting, either in person or over Zoom: theatrefilmcw@boisestate.edu
