Raquel is a professor of theatre arts and the chair of the department. She joined the faculty at Boise State in 2011 while continuing to design lighting for national and international companies and arts organizations. Local collaborations include: Boise Contemporary Theatre, Ballet Idaho, Idaho Shakespeare Festival, LED, and Opera Idaho. New York credits include: New York Theatre Workshop, SoHo Repertory Theatre, The Living Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Here Arts Center, Keen Company, and Young Jean Lee’s Theatre Company. Raquel was the resident lighting designer for the O’Neill Theatre Center from 2004-2021 where she contributed to the development of more than 160 new plays with the National Playwrights Conference under the artistic direction of Wendy C.
Goldberg.
In 2016 Raquel was named a Distinguished Faculty Member by the College of Arts and Sciences at Boise State University. In 2020 she joined the Kennedy Center’s American College Theatre Festival leadership and chaired the Design, Technology, and Management (DTM) area of region 7 until 2023. Raquel received her BA from Middlebury College and MFA in Design for Stage and Film from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
