About Prof. Pufall Purdy
Darrin J. Pufall Purdy is a Professor of Theatre Arts with a specialization in Costume Design and Technology at Boise State University and also serves as the Director of University Theatre. Holding an MFA in costume design and technology from the University of Florida, Darrin has worked for many notable companies across the United States, including The Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Boise Contemporary Theater, Artist Repertory Theatre, Broadway Rose Theatre Company (Portland, Oregon), and The Forestburgh Playhouse (Forestburgh, New York). Additionally, Darrin’s work has been part of touring productions in Brazil and Russia. Darrin’s design work has been recognized with a Portland Drammy Award for A Little Night Music (Mock’s Crest Productions, 2009), in addition to three Portland Area Musical Theatre Awards for his designs of The Pirates of Penzance (Mock’s Crest Productions, 2008), A Little Night Music (Mock’s Crest Productions, 2009) and Into the Woods (Broadway Rose Theatre Company, 2020).
Pufall Purdy’s research seeks to document the garb of orders of women religious to offer suitable and accurate resources for costume designers when producing stories that depict religious communities. Pufall Purdy served as a consultant to the 2024 Broadway revival of Doubt: A Parable (Roundabout Theatre Company) and created the religious habits featured on stage.
