John Michael Petros has been teaching for Boise State University since January, 2019. Prior to retiring in 2016, Petros served as Department Chair of the Media Arts program at Glendale Community College in Southern California. Having established the Media Arts Department at GCC in 1983, he created and taught courses in TV Studio Production, Motion Picture Production, Audio Production, Cinematography, Motion Picture Editing, Interactive Multimedia Production, DVD Authoring and Production, Animation, Aesthetics of Cinema, Writing for Media, Broadcast Journalism, Mobile Media Streaming, and Radio Webcasting. Petros was also co-owner and principal of Petros Multimedia, Inc. specializing in video and audio production, web and graphic design for over twenty years.
Working closely with Warner Bros. Feature Animation, Dreamworks Animation, and The Walt Disney Studios, Petros established the Animation Department at GCC in 2000, and assisted in the training of artists for the creation of the animated feature film, “The Iron Giant”.
Petros lives in Emmett, Idaho with his wife Colette. Together, they have three children with six grand-children. He enjoys spending time with his family, gardening, playing guitar and hosting family movie nights. From 2014, Mike has been a volunteer DJ with BluesMusicFan Radio, hosting a weekly two-hour blues music show.
