About Us
The Department of Theatre, Film and Creative Writing fosters the learning, practice and interaction of the dramatic, cinematic and literary arts. We celebrate creativity, collaboration and experiential learning.
Through hands-on learning, professional training and rigorous intellectual investigation, our academic programs prepare students for careers in the arts. Our graduates go on to work as actors, filmmakers, screenwriters, stage managers, event specialists, teachers, technical artists, playwrights, novelists, editors, directors and more.
In our programs, you will find robust creative communities, professional mentorship and dedicated professors who want to help you get where you want to go.
Located within the School of the Arts, the department features hands-on, innovative programs and opportunities, including:
- The interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts in Narrative Arts degree, the only one of its kind in the nation
- The Short Film Lab, a sequence of four courses that take students through the entire process of making a short film, culminating in a showcase of the completed projects
- Minors in Musical Theatre and Theatre Design and Event Management
- The opportunity to work on the award-winning literary journals, The Idaho Review and Free Poetry
