Advising

Meeting with an Academic Advisor is beneficial in so many ways! Academic Advisors can help you choose classes that work with your goals and your schedule. They can also help you make sure you’re on track to graduate. We recommend meeting with an Academic Advisor at least once a semester.

Academic Advisors can:

• • Work with you to enhance your academic skills.

• • Assist you in developing an academic plan for graduation.

• • Help you interpret your Degree Tracker or Academic Advising Report and understand major requirements, core and university policies and procedures.

• • Assist you in exploring a variety of majors and provide networking opportunities.

• • Provide information about internships and other experiential learning opportunities.

• • Help you sort out personal circumstances and determine how they affect your success.

• • Work with you to enhance your academic skills.

In the Department of Theatre, Film and Creative Writing, we partner with COAS Academic Advising and Student Services (CASS) to provide our students with high-quality, timely advising. There are no assigned academic advisors. You can set up an appointment with any advisor who specializes in your major.

To set up a meeting with a CASS Academic Advisor:

Your Mentor Advisor is a professor within your program who can advise you on big picture questions, such as your career goals, your projects, professional opportunities and more. When you reach your junior year at Boise State, you may select a Mentor Advisor within your program. This Mentor Advisor can help you plan for your career, find professional opportunities, serve as a resource or sounding board for your ideas and goals, and help you answer other big picture questions you have. You should continue to meet with an Academic Advisor through CASS during your junior and senior years.

To request a Mentor Advisor, please reach out the Department Advising Coordinator. You may or may not be able work with your first choice, depending on availability.
