Each year, the Boise State MFA Program brings a visiting writer to campus to work closely with MFA students. The program partners with the Hemingway House and Community Library in Ketchum, Idaho. The visiting writer and MFA students hold workshops in the historic Hemingway House–Ernest Hemingway’s last residence–and spend time together in scenic Ketchum. Past visiting writers include Adam Johnson, Joy Williams, Forrest Gander, Rick Bass, Bhanu Kapil and Denis Johnson.

About The Hemingway House
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Hemingway House is a treasured piece of Idaho literary history. Perched alongside the Big Wood River, the house sits on 13 acres, all of which are managed and preserved by the Community Library Association. As Ernest Hemingway’s final home–and Mary Hemingway’s home until 1986–the house preserves and promotes the iconic writer’s legacy in the American West and his connection to the land. A stunning example of mid-century architecture, the house is a key part of historic and literary programs that explore Hemingway’s connections to this rugged, breathtaking region in Idaho.
The Boise State MFA Program is proud to partner with the Community Library Association for the Visiting Writer Series. Additionally, several MFA alumni and faculty have completed residencies at the Hemingway House as part of their Writers-in-Residence Program.
