Emerging Writers Showcase

At the end of the spring semester, the Creative Writing Program celebrates the rising talents among its undergraduate students with a community reading called the Emerging Writers Showcase. The reading takes place as part of the annual Storyfort Festival, giving our students the chance to showcase their work to a diverse literary community.

The deadline to submit work for the Spring 2024 Emerging Writers Showcase is Friday, January 26 by the end of day (5:00 PM)

Submission Guidelines

Please read the following guidelines carefully. To be considered, you must submit a writing sample and be a currently enrolled student at Boise State University.

• If you already submitted via Submittable, you must submit again following these guidelines
• Email your writing sample to creativewriting@boisestate.edu
• Submit your sample by Friday, January 26 by the end of the day (5 PM MST)
• Submit in one genre only (poetry, fiction, or creative non-fiction). No multiple submissions, please!

Writing sample guidelines

• Attach your writing sample to your email as a Word Doc, Google doc, or PDF. No cover letter required
• Please title your submission with your full name, genre, and title of the piece. For example: Stephen_King_Fiction_IT
• Poetry: Submit no more than three poems, not to exceed nine pages total
• Fiction and creative non-fiction: Please submit an excerpt that is no longer than 5 pages total
• All submissions must be double-spaces in a standard, 12-point font
• Send us your best work! Your writing sample can be something you’ve published, or something that is unpublished
• Please edit your submission carefully for spelling and grammar
