Lab Testing: Student Policies

Students should read the Testing Policies & Procedures before taking exams at the Academic Testing Center. These policies are subject to change. Students who have not taken exams at the Academic Testing Center for an extended time are advised to reread this information. Test takers are also expected to abide by the Boise State Student Code of Conduct (University Policy No. 2020). If you have any questions regarding exam policies or procedures, please email testingcenter@boisestate.edu.

Testing Policies & Procedures

Boise State Student Code of Conduct

Academic Dishonesty

The Student Code of Conduct outlines definitions, examples, and university policies regarding Academic Dishonesty in Section 8, Articles A – G. By taking Boise State exams; students agree to abide by all policies outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.  These policies apply to Boise State exams proctored at other universities, through virtual proctoring services, as well as the Boise State Testing Center.

Exam Appointments

Exam Appointments

Appointments are not optional. Students must attempt to schedule appointments for all exams. Students who experience technical difficulty and are unable to schedule an appointment should email testingcenter@boisestate.edu. Walk-ins are not accepted under any circumstances.

How to Schedule an Appointment

Walk-in Policy

Walk-in appointments will not be accepted. Students will be directed to the outside kiosk to make an appointment. If no appointment is available then students will be directed to coordinate with their professors.

Check-in Procedures

ID Policy

Students must present a Boise State Student ID Card or a valid government ID (e.g., a driver’s license, passport, or military ID) to check-in for exams. Secondary forms of id, such as credit cards or membership cards, are not acceptable.

Electronics

Students must power off all small electronics such as cellphones and mp3 players. Setting these devices to silent or airplane mode is not sufficient; they must be turned off. Students will receive a lockable bag in which they should store personal electronics. The bag will remain in the students’ possession and should be placed face-up on the desk while testing. Large electronics such as laptops and tablets must stay inside students’ backpacks, placed under the seat.

Test Aides

Instructors determine which test aids, if any, are permitted during the exam. Students who bring incorrect test aides can either reschedule or test without a test aide. If you’re unsure of what’s allowed, contact your instructor to verify.

Note: For exams that allow Electronic Translators, please be aware that an Electronic Translator is single-function device that can only be used as a dictionary. Electronic Translators do not include a web browser or messaging capabilities. PDA’s, Tablets, and Smartphones are not permitted for use as translators.

Students must label all test aides and scratch paper with their first and last name, as well as the exam. A Proctor will collect all test aids and scratch paper at the end of the test. If any paper-based test aids, such as note cards, are needed for future exams, it’s the students’ responsibility to make copies before arriving at the testing center.

Testing Procedures

Student Workspace

While testing, students’ workstations must be clear of all materials that are unrelated to the exam. All bags, purses, wallets, water bottles, hats, sunglasses, and keys should remain under the seat or inside the students’ backpacks. The tags provided to students during check-in must be attached to the velcro patches at the top of the monitor. They indicate each student’s permitted test aides. Proctors monitoring the room will compare these tags to the materials in the testers’ workspace.

Headwear & Accessories

With exception to religious garb, students must remove all headwear and sunglasses while testing. All wearables and personal accessories should remain in backpacks or under the seat.

Food & Drink

Food and drink are not allowed in the testing room, with exception to water bottles which must remain under the seat throughout the exam. This policy does not apply to students with documented accommodations.

Restroom Breaks

Students are advised to use the restroom before checking-in for exams. Students who must use the bathroom during a test should notify a proctor before leaving the room. All personal items and test aides must remain at the work station during restroom breaks. Proctors reserve the right to submit exams if students are absent for an extended period.

Check-out Procedures

Test Completion

When finished, students should reset the workstation by clicking the reset button in the browser toolbar. Resetting the workstation will automatically log the student out of Canvas, clear the session data, and prepare the computer for the next tester. Students must not attempt to shut down, log off, or hard reset the computer by pressing the power button. Testing center pencils should remain at the desk, but all other materials must be turned in (including test aides, tabs, and scratch paper).

Test Aide Collection

Students must turn in all test aide materials including note cards, tabs, instructor handouts, and scratch paper during checkout. It is the students’ responsibility to label all paper materials used during the exam. Students’ first and last names, the instructor name, as well as the exam title, should appear clearly on all paperwork. Instructors can request to receive these materials once all students have taken the test, or have them shredded. If students wish to follow up with an instructor regarding a test question, students can ask to have their scratch paper scanned and emailed to their professor.
