The Academic Testing Center creates additional capacity and appointment flexibility by adding a surplus of seats for each exam (an additional 15% of the course enrollment). It is the students’ responsibility to proactively manage their appointments, those who attempt to schedule or reschedule at the last minute may not find availability. Failure to schedule in a timely manner is not considered a valid reason to miss an exam. Our process is designed to make the best use of the limited resources for testing.
The Boise State Academic Testing Center is not able to accommodate:
- Students who do not engage with the appointment scheduling process before the start of the exam window.
- Students who are unable to book their preferred appointment time.
The Boise State Academic Testing Center requires at least Two Business Days to process requests and is not able to accommodate same day requests.
Instructors can request makeup appointments for students at their discretion by completing the form at the bottom of this page. Make-up exams that comply with Policy 3120 (University-Recognized Student Absences) will be approved automatically. Other needs will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
University Recognized Student Absences
Policy 3120 recognizes the following reasons for a student’s absence:
- Athletics, band, forensics, dance, music, theater, or other activities sponsored by the University if identified by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, or their designees, as the basis for the excused absence.
- The observance of any religious holiday listed on the University’s Religious Observances Calendar or any other observed religious holiday.
- Duties required of Military-affiliated Students.
- Participation as a representative of the University or as an officer of a University co-curricular organization in a scheduled professional academic conference; a scheduled conference for which participation is mandatory for the student (e.g., a required annual meeting for all presidents of a national student organization); an academic competition; or a field trip scheduled as a part of a course.
- Participation in University-related business (e.g., student representative attending meetings related to University governance).
- Bereavement for the death of an immediate family member. An immediate family member includes a student’s spouse, domestic partner, child, parent, sibling, grandparent, or grandchild including the same relation by marriage or legal guardian.
- Jury duty service.
- An absence due to similar events that could not have been anticipated earlier in the semester will be recognized as an excused absence upon advance notification to the faculty member.
Other Options for Make-up Assessments
We encourage faculty to consider one of the options below before requesting a make-up exam at the Academic Testing Center (ATC). Exams that are administered at the ATC are configured in a specific way. When setting up a make-up exam to be administered outside the ATC, the instructor must create a copy of the assessment in Canvas.
- In-person or Zoom make-up with the professor.
- ProctorU Record+ exam. Record+ is available for at-home, secure remote proctoring of exams. Contact the Academic Testing Center for assistance getting started.
- Fee-Based Proctoring at PACS (Proctoring and Certification Services): PACS provides an on-campus option for in-person proctored make-up exams. The cost is $23.50 for the student. Email pacs@boisestate.edu to get started. Academic make-up exams conducted at PACS do not require special configuration and can use the same copy of the exam used by the ATC.
