Recycling FAQs

How can you tell a plastic item is a #1 or #2?

Two recycling chasing arrows in a triangular shape side by side; the one on the left has the number 1 in the middle and the words "PET" underneath the symbol. The one on the right has the number 2 and the words "HDPE" underneath the symbol.
To identify recyclable items, check for the chasing arrows symbol (recycling logo) at the base or bottom of the product. It will display a number 1 within the triangle of arrows, accompanied by the letters “PET” beneath, or a number 2 within the triangle, with the letters “HDPE” below it.

What about bottle caps and lids?

Bottle caps are okay to leave on, but lids to jugs and jars must be removed and thrown away.

What about the old signage?

They are outdated and we are in the process of removing them and replacing them.

Why can’t recyclables be bagged?

Plastic bags and films can get tangled in sorting machines. It forces the Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) to sort them by hand.

Who do I contact if I need a new recycling bin or if my recycling wasn’t picked up?
