We know that this semester has been unlike any other. That’s why it’s so important to take a moment to congratulate yourself on making it through this difficult time. Here are some ways that you can still pat yourself on the back and recognize all of the hard work it took to get to where you are right now.
1) Attend digital graduation on Facebook live
May 9 at 10 a.m. the first-ever virtual commencement will take place over Facebook live. If you’re a spring grad, you can also submit a video shout-out message to be featured of you thanking everyone who made your graduation journey possible. LatinX stole celebration will be held via Facebook live on May 3 at 3 p.m. and Native stole ceremony will also happen on Facebook live on May 5 at 6 p.m. Lastly, if you’re the first in your family to graduate from a four-year university, you can participate in the First Gen celebration by sending in a video message which will be featured on Facebook May 7.
2) Have a socially distanced picnic
The weather has been wonderful in Boise and you can still take advantage of it while social distancing. Have a picnic at your local park (if it’s open), while making sure to stay six feet apart from others. Share your favorite moments from the semester while getting some much needed outside time during self-isolation.
3) Get lost in a group game night
Self-isolation doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun with a group of your favorite gamers. Get together over Skype, FaceTime, or Zoom and play your favorite board game or use other game apps like Houseparty which already has games built in. Lastly, you can virtually log in to games with your friends with Jackbox Games or Kahoot, as long as you have a screen, you can play!
4) Watch Oprah’s commencement speech on Facebook
On May 15 at 12 p.m. MST, Facebook will host a commencement broadcast which will feature Oprah Winfrey as the graduating class keynote speaker. Other participants include Jennifer Garner, Simone Biles, Lil Nas X, and Miley Cyrus. The event will take place on both Facebook and Instagram.
5) Host a virtual karaoke night
Just get silly with your friends by singing your favorite songs either over video call or by using an app like Smule. Join and sing along with your friends to your favorite songs. Everyone can laugh and feel a bit more together by sharing their best (or worse) singing riffs. Let off a little steam.
5 ½) Celebrate your last final on Instagram
Make a video of you submitting your last final on Instagram stories and tag @getinvolvedbsu to share it with your peers and celebrate all the hard work you’ve done this semester. Every person who submits will be entered into a gift card drawing and several winners will be picked every day during finals week.
