Criminal Justice
For more than a decade, the Criminal Justice Program at Boise State University has hosted Crime Victims’ Rights Week. This series of workshops coincides with the observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. Workshops are open to the Boise State community, as well as to the public. Students may register and receive 1-2 credits by attending a certain number of hours of workshops and completing final learning assessments. The content of the workshops varies each year, but frequently offered topics include victims’ rights, intimate partner violence, dating abuse, stalking, sexual violence, child abuse, trauma, and victim services. In addition to workshops, participants are invited to attend documentaries on a variety of topics related to victimization.
Andrus Center for Public Policy
The Andrus Center hosts one of the most popular leadership conferences in the Mountain West, Women and Leadership. This conference pairs five to eight keynote speakers with up to four professional skill-building sessions. Past speakers have included Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Actress Geena Davis, and a number of female “firsts,” including the first female Smoke Jumper and the first African American female to pilot a USAF U-2 spy plane. Boise State students are offered both the opportunity to volunteer at the conference or the opportunity to attend at a student rate. Not only do students benefit from the conference agenda but they enjoy meeting and participating with 900+ attendees that touch on nearly every professional field.
