IPI awarded $1 million grant

Boise State University’s Idaho Policy Institute (IPI) will evaluate a $6.6 million grant from the United States Treasury’s Social Impact Partnerships to Pay for Results Act (SIPPRA) program, securing a $1 million award for the university. The City of Boise received the grant to improve housing access in the community by building 143 new housing units for citizens overcoming housing instability. Named the Permanent Supportive Housing Pipeline, this project represents the largest sponsored project award in IPI’s history.

Mayor McLean highlighted the significance of this initiative in a City of Boise press release, stating, “We are excited to leverage this opportunity from the U.S. Treasury supporting our efforts to make sure that every resident has a home here in Boise.”

Boise stands as one of just six communities in the U.S.—and the only city in the western United States—to receive this award. Vanessa Fry, director of the Idaho Policy Institute and lead investigator for the evaluation, emphasized the project’s importance, saying, “This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation in addressing one of our region’s most critical challenges. We are proud to partner with the City of Boise and other stakeholders to deliver meaningful insights and help create sustainable solutions for housing insecurity in our community.”

IPI’s evaluation will measure the grant’s impact by analyzing cost savings to local, state, and federal governments, as well as improvements to residents’ health and well-being. For more information about the Idaho Policy Institute, contact Vanessa Fry at vanessafry@boisestate.edu.
