Ingrid Rabe is a medical epidemiologist who has been working as a full-time consultant in the Zika and chikungunya arbovirus technical team within the World Health Organization Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness and Prevention department since 2018. The primary focus of her work has been implementation of the Global Arbovirus Initiative, working with WHO Regional Offices, Member States, and public health agency expert groups. She has led and coauthored evaluations of arbovirus surveillance methods, reviewed arboviral vaccine adverse events, convened expert working groups to develop technical guidance, and served on domestic and international outbreak response teams.
She earned her MBChB medical degree at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 1999. She completed her residency in Public Health Medicine in 2007 obtaining an MMed in Community Health, also from the University of Pretoria. She also holds a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. From 2007-2009 she served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer in the Bacterial Diseases Branch of the Vector-Borne Diseases Division of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, after which she continued on with the division as a medical epidemiologist in the Arboviral Diseases Branch until 2018.
