Professor and PhD Program Director
Dr. Douglas Myers is a Professor in the School of Public and Population Health. Dr. Myers is an epidemiologist and sociologist. He received his Sc.D. from the Work Environment Department at the University of Massachusetts in 2003. He has Master and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Sociology, also from the University of Massachusetts.
Dr. Myers’ work has focused on blending sociology and epidemiology to study occupational health outcomes, particularly work-related injuries and occupational safety. He has used social network analysis and culture theory to examine the risk of workplace injury and occupational safety among healthcare workers and miners. He is currently working on projects to examine the risk of workplace violence among young workers and workplace injury among loggers. His research is not limited to occupational health, however, and he is also currently working on a study to determine what the national trends in smoking-related cancers would look like after a hypothetical elimination of cigarette smoking.
