The Soil CoRE (Conservation, Restoration, and Engagement) team is made up of the Principal Investigators (PIs), as well as the Soil Conservation team. The PIs support the Soil Conservation team, and assure objectives are met for the USDA-NRCS Regional Soil Carbon Stock Monitoring program. The Soil Conservation team are the main outreach contact, coordinate on the ground efforts, train the qualified individuals, and conduct the soil monitoring efforts.

    Soil Conservation Outreach Coordinator

    Kayla coordinates with conservation managers at the national, regional, and state levels. She coordinates the outreach activities for soil carbon monitoring within specific USDA-NRCS programs.

    Sami Cronk

    Soil Conservation Assistant

    Sami works as part of the Soil CoRE team to deliver outreach and training services to Qualified Individuals (QIs) to work as intermediaries between producers enrolled in climate-smart conservation practices and the USDA-NRCS, to monitor and assess land-use change effects on soil organic carbon storage.

    Dave Huber

    UTEP Lead PI

    Dave is a Soil Scientist and the Western Region Lead. Dave’s expertise is in soil water, carbon, and nutrient cycling in dryland systems. He is accountable for assuring that all project activities are carried out in a timely, cost-efficient and responsible manner. Dave advises on the creation of educational materials related to soil carbon stocks and soil health, and trains new Qualified Individuals.

    Jen Pierce

    BSU Lead PI

    Rebecca helps to engage underserved communities through the region and assist with outreach training and materials. She assesses the efficacy of outreach materials and engagement practices in the other Western Region states.
