Sharon Paterson, chair of the Department of Sociology, recently appeared on a podcast by the Idaho Humanities Council to discuss her workshop “Sociology of a Pop Star: Taylor Swift.” Student instructor Sophie Pederson and student participant Jazmyne Hartogh also appeared on the podcast.
The new workshop examines the intersection between capitalism, feminism and the concept of self in the context of Swift’s career and impact. Students listen to Swift’s music, watch her music videos and discuss the her work in the context of gender, power, identity and capitalism in society.
The workshop will be available again in the fall of 2024. It is listed under SOC 294 in the course catalog and will run all day on two consecutive Saturdays, Oct. 5 and Oct. 12.
