Refund FAQs

Refund Information

How will I receive my refund if my account has a credit balance?

All qualified credit balances (must be $5 or more) are refunded to the student provided we have a current address on file.  See info on how to update your address here. We process refunds in the following ways:

  1. A check to your mailing address. Note: You must have a valid Mailing or Permanent address on file in order to receive refunds.  Please visit our Add/Update Mailing Address Instructions for more information.
  2. An electronic funds transfer (EFT) to your banking account if you have signed up for direct deposit. View the Direct Deposit FAQs for additional information. Note: We strongly encourage you to sign up for direct deposit on my.BoiseState to receive your refund quickly and securely.  Click here for instructions on enrolling in direct deposit.
  3. A refund to your credit card if the payment being refunded was made by a credit card.

If I drop my classes, will I get a refund?

If courses have not been paid in full or if you have a balance owed to the University for other items, credit you receive from dropping classes is applied to your student account balance first, before a refund is issued. Refunds due to withdrawals from the University are subject to various conditions. Please contact the Student Financial Services office for more information at (208) 426-2134. Deductions may be made from the refund amount for any other financial obligations owed to Boise State University.

Financial aid disbursed money to my student account, but I haven’t received my money yet, why is that?

Once financial aid has disbursed to your student account it may take 3-5 business days for the refund to be sent to your bank account or 5-7 business days for a refund check to be mailed. We encourage all students to set up a direct deposit for their financial aid and cash refunds.

I made a cash payment on my account and have since dropped classes, when will I receive a refund?

Cash refunds (including credit card and e-check payments) are not typically processed until after the 10th day of classes due to the high volume of adds and drops. If you wish to request a refund sooner, please e-mail SFINFO@boisestate.edu. For a complete list of refund dates, please check the Academic Calendar.

I lost, damaged, or never received my refund check due to an invalid address. How can I get a new one?

Please contact our office by emailing sfinfo@boisestate.edu, calling (208) 426-1212, or walking in to the office in Admin 101 to request a new check. A non-refundable $25 Stop Payment Fee will be charged for any check refunds that must be stopped and reissued due to loss, damage, or incorrect mailing information.  Please enroll in direct deposit and keep address information current to avoid these fees.
