Direct Deposit FAQs

Direct deposit is the electronic transfer of any excess financial aid, stipends, cash payment, or other student account credits directly into your bank account. By transferring funds electronically, there is no need for a printed check.

What are the benefits of having direct deposit?

You will get your money faster and you won’t have to stop at the bank to deposit your check. Direct deposit also eliminates the risk of a lost or stolen check.

What are the benefits of direct deposit for the University?

For the University, direct deposit helps conserve resources and save money. Paper processing is expensive, requiring purchases of both paper and ink.

How do I sign up for direct deposit?

Students may sign up for direct deposit by completing the information requested online on myBoiseState. Detailed instructions can be found on our Help Document.

Which routing number do I use for direct deposit?

The routing number that needs to be entered on the bank information page should be the nine-digit number provided on a check and not the deposit slip. If you do not have a check,  contact your bank to get your routing number.

How can I change/add my bank information?

Bank information can be updated at any time on myBoiseState. Please see our Help Document for step by step instructions.

Can my direct deposit be split between different banks and/or accounts?

No, at this time this option is not available.

Do I have to sign up for direct deposit each semester?

No. Once you sign up for direct deposit, there is no need to re-enroll unless your banking information changes.

Have I already set up direct deposit?

You can check to see if you have enrolled in Direct Deposit by visiting the Direct Deposit page at myBoiseState.edu. Please see our Help Document for step by step instructions.

Can I set up my direct deposit in the Student Financial Services office or by phone?

No, students must sign up for direct deposit on myBoiseState. Please see our Help Document for step by step instructions.

What do I do if I close an account or I need to change the direct deposit to a different account?

You must change your direct deposit information on myBoiseState immediately. If you fail to update your information, all funds already submitted to the bank will not be available to you until such funds are returned by the receiving bank to Boise State University.

How much am I getting refunded? Will it be as a check or direct deposit?

View refund details on myBoiseState by selecting the View Refunds link under the Related Content menu in the finances section. Please visit our Help Document for step by step instructions.

I have been refunded through a check, where was it mailed and when will I get the check?

Checks are mailed to the mailing address on your student account. Boise State has no way of knowing when you will receive your check; it is up to the US Postal Service.

myBoiseState shows my account has been refunded, when will my refund show up in my checking or savings account?

Student Financials usually refunds daily, it may take up to 3-5 business days for a direct deposit refund to appear in your bank account.

What happens if my direct deposit is rejected due to an invalid or wrong account number?

If your direct deposit is rejected, the receiving bank must return the funds back to the University before a paper check will be issued and mailed to the mailing address on your account.

Why was my refund not deposited into my checking or savings account?

A refund may not have been deposited into your account due to an invalid account number or there was no banking information provided.
