Develop & Expand skills for teaching with SL

Try one of these pathways, including workshops, faculty learning communities, and straightforward instructor guides. Choose a pathway that fits your needs and schedule.

Learn Alongside Your Peers

  • SL Faculty Learning Community in-person discussions to build a SL foundation and guide you through designing a SL experience for your course; 12 hours total over 12 weeks; $300 stipend. Spring semester.
  • SL Academy an online academy to help you explore and apply SL essential practices, leading to fully designed SL experience; 12 hours total over 12 weeks or 2-week intensive; $300 stipend. Fall semester.
  • Intro to SL Workshop – “Experiential Learning with Community Impact: An Introduction to Service-Learning” – offered every September, November, and February; find specific dates on this list of CTL workshops.
  • SL Pop-Up Conversations – 1- hour opportunities to share and learn from each other (roundtables, brownbags, and “Talking Teaching” sessions). Email Karabrascia@boisestate.edu to receive notifications and invitations.

Learn on Your Own

  • Community Engagement Academy (2-week intensive, online, and self-paced) – Explore and apply CE practices, leading to fully designed CE/SL experience; $200 stipend. Spring semester
  • SL Instructor Guide: Self-paced, with feedback. Provides six easy-to-complete stages (1 page each), each with specific steps (reading, watching, creating, or sharing).  Guides you through designing a SL experience for your course. Check out the table of contents.
