Introduction

Learning Goals:

  • Gain hands on experience by working for a community client to develop a successful public relations campaign.
  • Implementing the ROSTIR planning model in professional campaign
  • Practicing the professional interactions with the client.

Reflection

This semester, Radiant Relations worked with Artisans For Hope through meeting with the organization in person to gather information for their research report, goals and objectives, and campaign proposal. By meeting with our client, we were able to learn more about Refugees in the Treasure Valley area.

In our PR 301 course, we focused majority of our research through meeting with A4H around the final campaign proposal we will present to our client at the end of the semester. Working with a real-life client allowed our team to truly understand the great amount of work that goes into making the Refugees strive with success locally.

Using the information we have gathered this semester has allowed us to create a extraordinary campaign to ensure overall awareness of A4H, as well as an increase in monetary donations. Artisans For Hope has opened up our eyes into showing us the hours and days on end handcrafted goods they have created to make a profit off of. Working with A4H has shown Radiant Relations the true tenacity the refugees put in to make a living with their skills.

Service learning has drastically helped us as students by revealing how to formally work with a client in the real world. It has allowed us to make a change not only for the refugees, but the community itself. Going forward into our careers, this experience will provide us in a great direction to make a change.

Mission Statement:

“Where Refugees Connect, Learn, Create, and Earn”

Project Purpose/Community Identified Need:

Throughout the semester, we have worked with a local Boise nonprofit. It provides foundational understanding of the practice of public relations through the strategic planning of a public relations campaign for a community client. As a team, we have been able to dive deeper into how exactly each step of a campaign with a client should be approached and conducted. Helping both ourselves, as well as the client. The purpose is to allow us to get real world experience through those within the community willing to accept out help with a new perspective.

Course Concepts

Different clothing made by refugees is hung and displayed on tables. Understand the most commonly used PR models, theories, and principles in the practice of PR.

We use various PR models throughout each stage of campaign planning

Know the ROSTIR planning model; when to use and how to execute campaigns based on the needs of the client.

Following the stages of the model as we walk the client through the process of creating their campaign.

Move from tactician to strategy-based practitioners in order to align potential client objectives with an integrated campaign.

We were able to create objectives and strategies made specially for our client and their situation and needs.

Learn to work effectively in teams and with a professional client.

Throughout the semester, we got the chance to form our own public relations firm and work together alongside a professional client to create a campaign for them to implement in their future. This helped us grow as professionals as well as help the organization take advantage of opportunities

Methods

  • We used methods learned in class such as ROSTIR, SWOT analysis, secondary and primary research, etc.
  • We met with our client on multiple occasions to collect data in order to implement a plan to lead them to success.
  • We have produced a full research report, as well as strategies and objectives for a full campaign plan.

Results

The campaign plan we produced is set to take place from January-May 2024, so we don’t have set results. However we have made substantial connections with A4H & are confident that our plan will bring them success!

How did your work address the needs of the community?
A4H is a non-profit looking for direction in a campaign to help with Idaho Gives Day. We provided them with a full campaign plan to lead them to higher donations.
