The Dr. Thomas & Marilyn Beck Scholars Program

The Beck Scholars Program is a 10-week summer internship that will encompass relevant job experience and a variety of skill development opportunities, such as new skills training, skill translation, site specific work, job shadowing, industry networking, mentoring, career counseling and exhibition, performance and design opportunities. It allows students in the School of the Arts to train in arts and creative industries, or to translate and develop their skills in non-arts industries.

Students will complete their programs by making presentations of their internship experience and learning, including but not limited to the School of the Arts Advisory Board, School of the Arts leadership team, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and other affiliated colleagues.

The Beck Scholars Program includes:

  • A summer internship that is 10 weeks, 30-40/hr per week and 6 credit hours
  • A $6,000 stipend (paid by Boise State Financial Aid) to help pay for internship credit hours, provide the equivalent of a living wage for hours worked and any internship-related travel and expenses

Upon successful program completion, Beck Scholars:

  • May receive letters of professional recommendation from their internship agency supervisors upon request.
  • May request letters of professional recommendation from the School of the Arts representatives.
  • May apply for the Excellence in Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (EURECA) Cord, which is a newly instituted graduation cord that seeks to recognize Boise State students who have demonstrated commitment to development as a researcher or in creative work while pursuing their undergraduate degree.
  • May receive honorary membership on the School of the Arts Student Advisory Council.
