Boise State Music proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Richard Hutton as Interim Music Director of the Boise Philharmonic Master Chorale. Since arriving at Boise State in the Fall of 2023, Dr. Hutton, assistant professor of choral music education and assistant director of choral activities, has joyfully embarked upon a mission to cultivate community through music. “The successful choral program gets everyone involved,” Hutton explains. “One of the things I love about choir is that anyone can join and find a sense of belonging.”
According to their website, the Master Chorale “has endeavored to create moving musical experiences that inspire the community through a rich tradition of great choral music and modern musical innovations” for nearly 50 years. These shared core beliefs in community and the transformative power of music make Hutton a perfect partner and choice to guide the chorale through the next chapter, ensuring its continued growth and success.
On his selection as Interim Director, Hutton states, “I am deeply humbled and honored to have been selected to serve such a distinguished and long-standing organization. One of my predecessors at Boise State University, Dr. Jim Jirak, directed the Master Chorale from 1996-2020, and it is my hope to carry on that legacy. With a number of wonderful choral/orchestral opportunities on the horizon, I am thrilled to share our artistry with the Treasure Valley.”
Together, Hutton and the Master Chorale are poised to achieve new heights of musical excellence. His leadership promises to uphold the high artistic standards of the Boise Philharmonic Master Chorale and further enrich the cultural landscape of Boise and beyond.
