Boise State Music alum embarks on new journey with BRONCO SHIELD CyberCorps Program

Grace Lytle

Grace Lytle, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies (Music and Project Management) with a minor in Music in 2019, has taken a significant step in her academic and professional journey. Now a second-degree seeker, Lytle has been accepted into the prestigious BRONCO SHIELD CyberCorps Scholarship for Service (SFS) program, supported by the National Science Foundation.

The BRONCO SHIELD program addresses the growing need for cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI) experts dedicated to public service. It awards scholarships to a diverse range of undergraduate, master’s and PhD students at Boise State University. Scholars in the program receive comprehensive exposure to integrated AI and cybersecurity, equipping them to transition into cybersecurity professionals ready to serve in public sector organizations and safeguard the nation’s assets from cyber threats.

Lytle is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with an emphasis in Cybersecurity and is on track to graduate in May 2027. She is also enrolled in an Accelerated Master’s program in Cybersecurity. The BRONCO SHIELD scholarship covers her educational expenses and provides a living stipend, making it an invaluable resource in her academic endeavors.

The program, however, comes with a service commitment. For each year Lytle utilizes the scholarship, she will be required to work for the federal government. The prospect is exciting for many scholarship recipients, as it opens doors to potential careers with top-tier agencies such as the NSA and FBI or internships with similar organizations.

“Being accepted as a BRONCO SHIELD scholar is a monumental step in my journey. My background in music has taught me the importance of discipline, creativity, and perseverance—skills that seamlessly translate to the world of computer science and cybersecurity. This opportunity will allow me to merge my passion for helping others with my technical skills, equipping me for an impactful role in public service,” Lytle shared.

With this new chapter, Grace Lytle exemplifies how diverse skills and passions can converge at Boise State, leading to groundbreaking opportunities in the rapidly evolving fields of AI and cybersecurity.
