Over the summer, the Alexa Rose Foundation announced the 2023 grant recipients, celebrating the artistic talents of 50 remarkable individuals hailing from various disciplines and experience levels across the Treasure Valley. This year, a grand total of $144,000 in awards were been earmarked to foster their creative growth and endeavors.
The selection process was an exhaustive one, with a diverse panel of over 50 subject matter experts, peers, and art enthusiasts from our community who evaluating the applicants. These grants, which range up to $5,000 each, have been awarded to local artists, providing them with the crucial resources needed to push the boundaries of their artistic visions.
At the heart of the Alexa Rose Foundation’s mission lies a steadfast commitment to empowering artists from all walks of life and enabling them to achieve their utmost creative potential. By extending this support, the foundation strives to enhance and enrich the cultural landscapes of Ada and Canyon Counties, contributing to the thriving arts scene in the region.
This year, several School of the Arts faculty members and a student were awarded grants. These individuals represent the diverse tapestry of artistic talent within the Treasure Valley. While a full list of awardees can be viewed here, artists from Boise State’s community included:
- Anika Smulovitz – Metal – Funding towards microprocessors, sensors, and materials to create wearable artwork
- Astri Snodgrass – Textiles – Industrial sewing machine for creating large, sculptural paper quilts
- Hallie Maxwell – Film- Video equipment for documentary work
