Boise State vehicles, owned or leased, are self-funded for property damage coverage under the Retained Risk Account and adjudicated by State Risk as provided by the Auto Coverage Document. University faculty, staff and student employees are covered as insured for liability for while driving such vehicles within the course and scope of their employment. Please refer to Policy #9040 – University Vehicles for further details, including driver, vehicle and training requirements.
Employees may choose to drive their own vehicles for university business. In doing so they must comply with all university policies and State of Idaho laws as to a valid driver’s license and minimum liability insurance requirements. Employees should follow university and departmental protocols for driving their own vehicles.
When driving their own vehicle, an employee’s auto liability and property damage insurance is primary for coverage. The State and university’s coverage does not provide liability or property damage coverage for an employee’s personal vehicle. Please discuss personal vehicle usage with your supervisor to determine if this is the best and most appropriate method of transportation.
Employees are required to review and sign the Driver’s Expectations and Auto-Personal Vehicle forms, located on the RMI website. Copies of completed forms are to be retained by the supervising department.
