Summary:
The purpose of this funding opportunity is to increase the number of community-engaged pilot projects across the CTR-IN network. This funding opportunity is particularly directed towards faculty who have already established relationships with community partners to engage in research with those communities. The goal of this community-engaged project is to generate key preliminary data and evidence of robust community-engaged research to support and inform a competitive “R-level” grant application to NIH or other extramural funding sources. Projects must involve community-engaged human subjects research; CTR-IN does not support pre-clinical research.

Award:
Direct Costs of $60,000 for the project period from July 15, 2022 through June 30, 2023.
Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline:
Five (5) nominations per institution are permitted.
Only nominations approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program. For such approval, Principal Investigators must first submit a one (1) page white paper to preaward@boisestate.edu by Monday, October 18.
Your white paper should include:
- Sufficient detail to establish that the community-engaged human subjects research is clinical and/or translational.
- Information about how the research will include a focus on one or more NIH-designated populations who experience health disparities in the United States, which include racial and ethnic minority groups (Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians and Alaska Natives, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders), socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, sexual and gender minorities, and underserved rural populations.
- Details about the established relationship between the PI and the community partner.
If selected to submit a full proposal, PIs must ensure that proposals meet all requirements stated in the RFP, in the announcement and in the implementing laws and regulations related to this state grant program.

- October 22, 2021 – Internal Awardees Notified
- December 8, 2021 – Nominating Packets due to CTR-IN*
- December 15, 2021 – Invitations to investigators to submit full applications will be issued by CTR-IN
- March 9, 2022– Full proposal due to OSP
- March 16, 2022 – Full proposal due to CTR-IN
*Early submission of the nomination is encouraged. If CTR-IN finds an error prior to the December 8 due date, the nomination may be updated.
Important Note on Requirements:
- CTR-IN is hosting a webinar on this opportunity will be held on October 6th at 2:00 PM Mountain Time. You can join following this zoom link.
- Note the programmatic priorities, including the requirement that the research focus on one or more NIH-designated populations who experience health disparities.
- The PI must 1) have a faculty-level appointment with a minimum of 0.5 FTE support at Boise State; 2) be eligible to submit extramural grant applications as a PI; and 3) have an established community partnership that is focused on the pilot project topic. The PI must devote at least 20% effort (2.4 person months) to the project. Prior CTR-IN awardees are eligible to apply, but they must be in good standing (i.e., submission of requested progress reports and updates). Per IDeA program policy, an awardee may not concurrently receive funding for their research program through other IDeA mechanisms (e.g., CTR, COBRE or INBRE).
- The community partner must have worked directly and regularly with the participating community.
