Description of Anticipated Work:

  • Conduct work necessary to refine Environmental DNA (eDNA) marker for the spadefoot. Write
    up results and publish the data so it is available for spadefoot conservation work by others.
  • Refine the eDNA spadefoot collection protocol to account for spatial and temporal efficacy of
    eDNA detection. Refined eDNA collection protocol should be robust enough to ensure detection
    of WST if present at any time during the breeding season. Conduct the work at Lincoln Receiver
    Site (LRS) or other known spadefoot population.
  • Conduct intensive eDNA sampling of vernal pools at Beale Air Force Base (BAFB) in the vernal
    pools and other suitable habitat within ~0.5 miles (1.8 km) of the locations of confirmed 2017
    and 2018 breeding season WST calls.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has just released the 2019 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Omnibus Grant Solicitations! The HHS SBIR and STTR Omnibus grant solicitations permit researcher-initiated topics around health, medicine and life science to be submitted for funding consideration.

Small Business Innovation Research:

The SBIR program, as established by law, is intended to meet the following goals: stimulate technological innovation in the private sector; strengthen the role of small business in meeting Federal research or research and development (R/R&D) needs; increase the commercial application of Federally-supported research results; foster and encourage participation by socially and economically disadvantaged small business concerns and women-owned business concerns in the SBIR program; and improve the return on investment from Federally-funded research for economic and social benefits to the Nation.

Small Business Technology Transfer:

The STTR program, as established by law, is intended to stimulate a partnership of ideas and technologies between innovative small business concerns (SBCs) and non-profit research institutions through Federally-funded research or research and development (R/R&D). By providing awards to SBCs for cooperative R/R&D efforts with non-profit research institutions, the STTR program assists the small business and research communities by commercializing innovative technologies.
