Summary
Grants for Arts Projects (GAP) provides expansive funding opportunities to strengthen the nation’s arts and cultural ecosystem. Funded activities may include public engagement with the arts and arts education, the integration of the arts with strategies promoting the health and well-being of people and communities, and the improvement of overall capacity and capabilities within the arts sector.
NEA funds arts projects in the following disciplines: Artist Communities, Arts Education, Dance, Design, Film & Media Arts, Folk & Traditional Arts, Literary Arts, Local Arts Agencies, Museums, Music, Musical Theater, Opera, Presenting & Multidisciplinary Arts, Theater, and Visual Arts.

Award
- $10,000 to $100,000 for up to two (2) years.
- All grants require a nonfederal cost share/match of at least 1 to 1.
Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline
One (1) application per institution is permitted in a calendar year; however, organizations like Boise State that have “separately identifiable and independent components (e.g., a university campus that has a presenting organization and a radio station)” may submit an application for each such component.
White Paper Process. Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program. For such approval, Principal Investigator (PI) must first submit a White Paper to limitedsubmissions@boisestate.edu by 4 pm on January 9, 2025.
Your white paper should be 1-2 pages and include:
- The goal and proposed outcomes of the project
- Brief description of the proposed project and activities
- How the project aligns with Boise State’s mission, artists, and community
- The estimated total grant request and cost share information. Cost Share is required at a match rate of 1:1. Please identify the anticipated cost share amounts and the source of funds for the cost share. If you are unsure, clearly state this directly in your white paper.
White papers will be evaluated using the following criteria:
- Clearly defined goals and/or proposed outcomes and if relevant, measures to assess student and/or teacher learning
- Clarity of project activities and ability to carry out the project
- The value and appropriateness of the project to Boise State’s mission, artists, and community
- Ability to obtain matching funds

- January 23, 2025 – Anticipated date Internal Awardees Notified
- January 30, 2025 – Final budget and cost share information due to OSP
- February 6, 2025 – Full proposal due to OSP
- February 13, 2025 – Part 1 of proposal due to NEA through grants.gov
- February 26, 2025 – Part 2 of proposal due to NEA through NEA’s applicant portal
Important Notes on Sponsor Requirements
- Cost Share is required for this program. Requests for Cost Share must be submitted for Approval by the respective departments, colleges, and DRED at least 10 days prior to the sponsor submission deadline. Failure to do so will result in cost share not being approved.
