Summary
The NSF EPSCoR Graduate Fellowship Program (EGFP) is a new three-year pilot program intended to advance graduate talent recruitment, development, and retention at graduate institutions in EPSCoR jurisdictions. Awardee institutions will select fellowship recipients, the NSF EPSCoR Graduate Fellows, from the pool of exceptional talent who received Honorable Mention from the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) no more than three years prior to the proposal due date. EGFP awards are made to institutions to support graduate students in specific fields of study. Participating NSF Directors and Offices are: Biological Sciences, Computer and Information Science and Engineering, Engineering, Geosciences, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Social Behavioral and Economic Sciences, STEM Education, Technology Innovation and Partnerships, and Integrative Activities.

Award
Proposals must request at least the amount of funding required to support three Fellows over three years ($477,000 total). It is anticipated that no proposals will request support for more than 20 Fellows over three years ($3,180,000 total). It is also anticipated that the average award size will allow five Fellows to be supported for three years ($795,000 total).
Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline
One (1) proposal per institution.
Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program. For such approval, PIs must first submit a one- to two-page white paper to limitedsubmissions@boisestate.edu by 4 pm on July 31, 2024.
Priority will be given to proposals that will support PhD students. The Division will consider consolidating the application centrally to leverage multiple PhD pathways.
Your white paper should describe:
- The STEM or STEM education research area(s) for which Fellows are sought, and the number of students for whom Fellowships will be provided (disaggregated by research area as appropriate).
- How the graduate program(s) will provide a high quality graduate experience, including mentoring and support for career success.
- How the graduate program(s) align to one or more of the participating NSF Directorates/Offices.
- How the project will build research capacity at Boise State and in Idaho.
White papers will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- The capacity and exemplary characteristics of the graduate education and research programs in the discipline(s) relevant to the proposed project at Boise State.
- The effectiveness of graduate education and mentoring programs in the relevant discipline(s) in retaining students to degree completion and preparing them for success in their future careers.
- The extent to which the proposed project will enhance the capacity for research and/or contribute to innovation in Idaho.

Important Note on Sponsor Requirements
An individual must not participate as PI, Co-PI, or Senior/Key Personnel on more than one proposal submitted for the same deadline.
