Summary:
The DOE SC program in Basic Energy Sciences (BES) announces a re-competition of the Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) program and encourages both new and renewal applications. Applications from multi-disciplinary teams will be required to propose both discovery science and use-inspired basic research that addresses priority research directions and opportunities identified by a series of BES workshop and roundtable reports. We anticipate the technical emphasis for the EFRC program will continue to include research related to microelectronics, low-carbon manufacturing, quantum information sciences, and other
high-priority topics, such as the fundamental science that underpins the Energy Earthshots Initiative.
The upcoming FOA is anticipated to be released in December 2023; however, the Center for Research and Creative Activity, along with the Office of Sponsored Programs, requests that teams begin developing concepts for the required Pre-Application. Thus, there are no deadline dates below except the following: an email to OSP indicating interest in submitting a Pre-Application by August 25, 2023.
Award:
Up to $4,000,000 per award per year ($16,000,000 per award for a 4-year period).
Applications requesting less than $2,000,000 per award per year ($8,000,000 per award for a 4-year period) may be declined without further review.
Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline:
Applicant institutions are limited to no more than three (3) pre-applications or applications.
Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program. For such approval, Principal Investigators (PIs) must first submit an email indicating interest to preaward@boisestate.edu by 1 PM on Friday, August 25, 2023. An additional white paper round may be conducted if necessary.
If selected to submit a full proposal, PIs must ensure that proposals meet all requirements stated in the RFP, in the announcement, and in the implementing laws and regulations related to this grant program.
