NASA EPSCoR Upcoming Funding Opportunities

Idaho NASA EPSCoR wanted to let you know about some upcoming funding opportunities. Idaho NASA EPSCoR especially encourages proposals from early career researchers, women, and other underrepresented groups in STEM fields for all of the opportunities below. Pre-Proposals for National NASA EPSCoR Research Solicitation

NASA is expected to release this solicitation sometime in November. Idaho NASA EPSCoR is seeking pre-proposals so that one proposal is selected from Idaho to be submitted to NASA. (NASA only allows 1 submission per EPSCoR state). The goal of this pre-proposal request and the subsequent review and selection process is to identify projects that may be successful in competing for NASA EPSCoR funds at a national level. The selected pre-proposal team will have approximately 60 to 90 days to create the full proposal.

  • Maximum award amount: $725,000
  • Award duration: Up to 3 years
  • Matching requirement: 50% (e.g., if you request $725,000 from NASA; you must provide $362,500 in cost-share)
  • Who can apply? Researchers from Idaho’s colleges and universities can submit pre-proposals.
  • Optional Notice of Intent deadline: October 15, 2021
  • Deadline to submit pre-proposal to Idaho NASA EPSCoR: November 19, 2021
  • All pre-proposals must be submitted via the Idaho NASA EPSCoR website at https://www.idahonasaepscor.org/submit
  • Deadline to submit a proposal to NASA: To be announced – but likely in February 2022.

NASA EPSCoR International Space Station Flight Opportunity

NASA just released this solicitation which is intended for current or previously funded EPSCoR projects or other research projects that are mature enough to design a research experiment or develop research experimental hardware to the point that it can be safely flown on the ISS. Each NASA-funded EPSCoR proposal is expected to perform scientific and/or technical research in areas that support NASA’s strategic research and technology development priorities and contribute to the overall research infrastructure, science and technology capabilities of higher education, and economic development of the jurisdiction receiving funding. The selected NOI team will have approximately 50 – 60 days to create the full proposal.

  • Maximum award amount: $100,000 ($95,000, as $5,000 will be reserved for INE program oversight)
  • Award duration: 3 years
  • Matching requirement: None
  • Who can apply? Researchers from Idaho’s colleges and universities can submit proposals in coordination with Idaho NASA EPSCoR.
  • Deadline to submit Notice of Intent to Idaho NASA EPSCoR: November 5, 2021
  • All NOIs must be submitted via the Idaho NASA EPSCoR website at https://www.idahonasaepscor.org/submit
  • Deadline to submit a proposal to NASA: January 14, 2022

NASA Rapid Response Research (R3) Opportunity – Solicitation release expected in December 2021.

Each R3 award is usually $100K per year per research topic. While the solicitation is not yet out, NASA has shared the anticipated research topics.

  • Maximum award amount: $100,000 ($95,000, as $5,000 will be reserved for INE program oversight)
  • Award duration: 1 year
  • Matching requirement: None
  • Who can apply? Researchers from Idaho’s colleges and universities can submit pre-proposals.
  • Deadline to submit a proposal to NASA: TBD but likely February 2022

Idaho NASA EPSCoR Research Initiation Grants – Solicitation release expected in December 2021.

  • Maximum award amount: Approximately $50,000
  • Award duration: 1 to 2 years
  • Matching requirement: None
  • Who can apply? Researchers from Idaho’s colleges and universities can submit proposals.
  • Deadline to submit a proposal to Idaho NASA EPSCoR: TBD – but likely March 2022
