Higher Education Research Council Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission Initiative (IGEM-HERC)

Summary:

The Idaho legislature has appropriated funds to the State Board of Education to be awarded for competitive state university research under the direction of HERC in support of the goals of the Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) initiative. These funds are to be used as seed funding for strengthening Idaho’s future by strategically investing in the development of expertise, products, and services which result in state economic growth.

The goals of IGEM-HERC are to a) leverage the talents and expertise of Idaho’s research activities and the private sector to further the economic vitality of the state; b) create a platform to facilitate and accelerate the transfer of technology from our state research facilities and into the private sector; and c) create new ideas, products, and companies that will lead to higher-paying jobs and a strong economic foundation for Idaho.

Award:

Up to $700,000 per year for up to three (3) years.

Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline:

Three (3) applications per institution are permitted.

Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program.  For such approval, Principal Investigators must first submit a one-to-two page white paper to preaward@boisestate.edu by November 15, 2021.

Your white paper should include:

  • Team Member Names, including details about any proposed collaborators
  • Brief overview of the Project
  • An explanation of where the Project currently sits on the Technology Readiness Level spectrum

If selected to submit a full proposal, PIs must ensure that proposals meet all requirements stated in the RFP, in the announcement, and in the implementing laws and regulations related to this state grant program.

Key Submission Dates:

  • November 15, 2021 – White paper due to preaward@boisestate.edu. We encourage you to cc your Dean for visibility as well
  • November 22, 2021 – Anticipated date of notification to Internal Awardees
  • January 25, 2022 – Full proposal due to OSP
  • February 1, 2022 at 5 PM – Full proposal due to the Office of the State Board of Education

Important Note on Requirements:

  • Proposals that fall lower on the federal agency appropriate Technology Readiness Level (TRL) spectrum and that show strong likelihood for moving up the spectrum will be given the most serious consideration by the Higher Education Research Council.
