Limited Submission Notice:

U.S. Department of Energy Scientific Infrastructure Support for Consolidated Innovative Nuclear Research

Sponsor:

U.S. Department of Energy

Summary:

The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Nuclear Energy (NE) provides funding to support crosscutting nuclear energy research and development (R&D) and associated infrastructure support activities to develop innovative technologies that offer the promise of dramatically improved performance for advanced reactors and fuel cycle concepts, while maximizing the use of DOE resources.

DOE is seeking applications for General Scientific Infrastructure (GSI) Support for Universities. The infrastructure support requested should be individual, discrete, and definable items or capabilities that will:

  • Support, maintain, or enhance the institution’s capacities to attract and teach high quality students interested in nuclear energy-related studies;
  • Build the institution’s research or education capabilities; or
  • Enhance the institution’s capabilities to perform R&D that is relevant to DOE-NE’s mission.

For more information, view the full Funding Opportunity Announcement (DE-FOA-0002517).  Note that Boise State University is not eligible for the University Research Reactor Upgrade Infrastructure Support program included in the announcement.

Award:

DOE anticipates that the awards for University General Scientific Infrastructure Support will average $250,000 for the total project period. The estimated project period is one (1) year.

Awards over $250,000 are required to include cost share at a rate of 1:1 for each dollar over $250,000.

Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline:

One (1) application per institution is permitted.

Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program. If you are interested in submitting, please send an email indicating your interest to preaward@boisestate.edu by noon on September 17.

If more than one PI is interested in submitting, OSP will conduct a subsequent white paper round. If required, white papers will include a budget and a one (1) page narrative.

Key Submission Dates:

  • September 17 at 12 PM – Email indicating interest due to preaward@boisestate.edu
  • November 4 – Full proposal due to OSP
  • November 11 at 5 PM – Full proposal due to U.S. Department of Energy

Important Note on Requirements:

The proposal should focus on a single, synergistic goal, or capability. A proposal made of several uncorrelated equipment requests does not meet the goals of this program. A request should not duplicate existing capabilities.

Proposals are restricted to equipment for activities supporting research, teaching, and education, such as the purchase, set-up, and vendor installation costs for equipment and instrumentation, as well as building modifications that immediately support the installation and operation of the equipment. Note the list of unallowable costs on page 3 of the Funding Opportunity Announcement.
