Research Summary

My research spans volcanology and natural hazard community preparedness. Initially, my work focused on monitoring volcanic mudflows (lahars) and analyzing their flow dynamics using a combination of geophysical and remote sensing techniques. This research aimed to improve early warning systems for volcanic hazards. Currently, my research shifts to understanding how emergency managers and response teams make real-time decisions regarding evacuation and communication during wildfires and other natural disasters. We specifically assess behavioral evacuation intentions to identify key decision-making triggers that help guide emergency teams in informing the public about evacuation procedures. Additionally, I am collaborating with FEMA on a communication outreach project to promote the statewide distribution of LiDAR data for enhanced disaster preparedness.
