This summer, Brennan Williams-Mieding completed fieldwork for his thesis at the Trailbridge Reservoir Ignimbrite (TBR) site. The TBR is a rare and unique volcanic deposit located in Western Oregon, adjacent to the Trailbridge Reservoir between the Western and High Cascades. It is a low-silica (mafic) ignimbrite, which are exceptionally rare and unusual forming on Earth.
This formation has been of great interest to the research team that Brennon is working with, funded through a NASA NSPIRES grant, as they seek to discover the pre-eruptive geochemical factors which contributed to the eruption and subsequent welding of this volcanic deposit.
