Throughout this summer, Boise State University graduate Alex Iturriria has been collaborating with the City of Hailey on their Climate Risk and Vulnerability statement. The work primarily involves conducting a comprehensive literature review of historical climate trends specific to Hailey or the nearest available area. This review emphasizes the past 50 years and includes crucial climate indicators such as temperature, precipitation, snowpack, wildfire, flooding, drought, and extreme weather events.
Additionally, this project examines secondary indicators like river health, flora and fauna trends, growing season shifts, air quality, and public health impacts. These elements enrich the narrative of Hailey’s climate challenges.
To effectively communicate these findings, Alex is assembling various charts, maps, and graphics that cater to both scientific and general audiences. While utilizing existing resources, Alex will also create original visuals based on verified data to illustrate these trends clearly.
Through this project, the aim is to provide a detailed and insightful perspective on Hailey’s climate history, helping to inform and guide future climate resilience strategies.
