Bio

Dr. Gissela Pascual joined the Micron School of Material Science and Engineering at Boise State
University in February 2022 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, where she is currently working in
the Quantum DNA Research Group with Associate Professor Jeunghoon Lee as part of the DNA
Construct Synthesis Team. She earned her Ph.D. (2020) and M.Eng.(2017) degrees from Tohoku
University of Japan under the guidance of Dr. Osamu Nishimura, in collaboration with Dr. Daisuke
Sano.

Dr. Pascual has previous working experience in academia, government, and industry. Her
appointment after receiving her Ph.D. was as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and
Environmental Engineering of Tohoku University. Besides mentoring graduate students, she
investigated the combined effect of temperature and pH on the toxicity of copper and the influence
of copper on gene expression of microalgae species. Dr. Pascual worked at the National Water
Authority, an autonomous constitutional body attached to the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation
of Peru as a Water Quality Specialist. In addition, she worked as an environmental consultant and
analyst in diverse environmental consulting companies and analytical laboratories.

Dr. Pascual likes taking on challenges; she is always excited about learning something new,
especially new research topics and the culture and diversity of many countries. As an Andean
Peruvian person, she loves being in touch with nature. She enjoys cooking because it is a great
chance to be creative, and she likes dancing because it connects her with music and makes her feel
alive.
