Shibani Basu, Ph.D.

Shibani was born in the eastern part of India. After finishing her Ph.D. in India, she was a post-doctoral researcher at the Materials Science Engineering Department of Ghent University in Belgium working on analytical characterization of microstructure and texture of friction stir welded AA 6061 alloys. As a follow-up, she did a second post doctorate at Southern Methodist University in Texas working on synthesis and development of new of beta-lactam antibiotics and structural determination of beta-lactam antibiotics using nuclear magnetic resonance studies.
Dr. Basu joined the Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering at Boise State University in October 2020 as a Research Scholar in the Nanoscale Materials and Device Group, Quantum DNA research group to work on the synthesis of novel DNA-templated dye aggregates in achieving quantum entanglement and applications such as quantum computing. Her previous work includes working as a Research Scientist for Boise State’s Chemistry Department starting in 2017, for which she conducted analytical method validation, small molecule synthesis, and assay development with a focus on bio-molecular chemistry/medicinal chemistry applications. Later Shibani was a key member of the Biomolecular Research Center beginning in March 2020, where she worked on analytical product development and structural analysis of proteins. Dr. Basu has worked to establish cross-disciplinary collaborations with her colleagues at Boise State and to expand university relationships with regional industrial partners.
