Boise State offers a variety of parking solutions to help departments carry out university-related business efficiently. From hosting campus guests, to creating tailored parking options to meet operational needs, the Department of Public Safety offers flexible solutions that keep the campus safe, accessible and organized.

Department and Visitor Parking Options
Department Specific
Department Special (D3) Permits
Boise State University offers a Department Special Permit, commonly known as the D3 Permit, designed to provide departmental staff with flexible parking options across campus.
Department Special Permit (D3 Permit) Details:
- Usage: It can be issued to a specific employee or designated for shared departmental use.
- Eligibility: This permit is available to Boise State University departments and must be accompanied by a current Boise State Garage, Reserve, or Commuter Permit.
- Privileges: The D3 Permit allows the holder to park outside of their primary permit zone in Garages, Reserve Lots, Commuter Lots, and Pay Lots for up to a maximum of 3 hours.
- Cost: The permit is priced at $244 for the fiscal year.
Department Reserved Parking Space
Boise State University offers Designated Reserve Parking options tailored for departmental needs, providing reserved parking stalls for specific employees or general department use.
Designated Reserve Parking Details:
- Purpose: This permit reserves a specifically assigned parking stall for a designated employee or for department use. (e.g., Visitor/Guest Stalls or Department Vehicles)
- Department Use Cost: $1,014 annually, fully funded by the department.
- Specific Employee Cost: Total annual cost of $1,014, split between the employee ($494) and the department ($520).
Campus Visitors
Department-Covered Discount Coupon Code
Boise State University offers Coupon Codes as a convenient parking solution for departments hosting guests or visitors. These codes are designed to be used at parking kiosks across campus, allowing guests to park without direct payment at the machine. (codes cannot be used on ParkMobile)
Key Details:
- Purpose: Coupon codes are intended exclusively for guests or visitors of a department. They are not to be used by Boise State students, faculty, or staff.
- Duration: Departments can request coupon codes valid for a month, a semester, or the remainder of the fiscal year, depending on their specific needs.
- Usage and Billing: When a guest uses a coupon code at a parking kiosk, they are not charged. Instead, the hosting department is billed 50% of the total parking cost per code usage. For example, if a guest selects the $25 day rate using the coupon code, the department will be charged $12.50.
Daily Scratch-off Permit
Boise State University offers Daily Scratch-Off Permits to accommodate the parking needs of guests and visitors. These permits provide flexibility for single-day campus access.
Key Details:
- Cost: Each permit is priced at $17. When purchasing a bundle of five permits, an additional permit is provided free of charge, effectively offering six permits for the price of five.
- Purpose: Designed for guests or visitors of university departments. Departments are prohibited from using department funds to purchase these permits for use by Boise State students, faculty, or staff.
- Validity Period: Each permit is valid for a single day, from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, when lots close.
- Permitted Parking Areas: Holders may park in any Garage, Reserve, or Commuter Lot on campus.
Volunteer Permit
Boise State University offers a Volunteer Permit to support individuals who volunteer their time and services to the university without compensation. This permit facilitates parking access for volunteers during their service periods.
Key Details:
- Parking Access: The permit grants access to a specific parking zone on campus, determined based on the location requested and space availability.
- Eligibility: The Volunteer Permit is exclusively for individuals who are not receiving any form of compensation from Boise State University or their employer for their volunteer activities on campus.
- Cost: There is no charge for the Volunteer Permit.
- Duration: This permit is intended for short-term use and is valid only for the individual to whom it is issued, for the time they are approved. It is not transferable or intended for shared use.
- Format: The Volunteer Permit is entirely virtual and is linked to the volunteer’s vehicle license plate number.
Short and Long-term Visitor Permit

How to Request a Department Permit
1. Review Eligibility
Make sure your department, as well as the individual or group you’re requesting parking for, meets the listed eligibility criteria in the Department and Visitor Parking Options.
2. Submit a Request Form
Use the “Request a permit” button to complete the appropriate request form. Processing times may vary based on demand and availability.
3. Receive Approval and Payment Details
Once approved, instructions for permit pickup and payment processing (if applicable) will be provided.
Permit Regulations and Usage Guidelines
Department permits are not intended for personal use. They must be used strictly for university business purposes.
- Permits must be properly displayed when parked in designated areas.
- Misuse may result in revocation, fines and possible immobilization (boots) or towing.
- Availability is subject to parking capacity.
